MFD: Please Help Clear Hydrants |
Winter snowstorms create a special concern for the Montclair Fire Department, with snowfalls and street plowing often hiding fire hydrants under large mounds of snow, making them difficult to find quickly. The MFD asks residents and business owners to help keep their neighborhood fire hydrants cleared so that in the event of a fire, firefighters don’t lose precious time locating and shoveling them out before being able to hook up to them. Time lost could mean all the difference in an emergency.
Firefighters need a three-foot clearance on all sides of the hydrant. Please help your Fire Department - and your neighbors - by ensuring that the hydrant in your area is readily visible and accessible in the event of an emergency.
For further information, please contact the Montclair Fire Department at: 973-744-5000.

Township Awarded "Calling the Mayday" Training Funding |
Township Manager Marc Dashield is pleased to announce that Montclair was awarded funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program which will enable the Township’s 82 line firefighters to participate in life-safety training with the National Fire Academy’s “Calling the Mayday” program – an instructor-led hands-on certification course which teaches firefighters situational awareness to realize they are in immediate danger.
The “Calling the Mayday” training program will also be made available to surrounding departments’ career and volunteer firefighters.
