The office of the Municipal Clerk is historical in its traditions, serving as a direct link between residents and their local government since Biblical times. The early keepers of archives were often called "rememberers" and before writing came into use, their memory served as the public record.
NJ Statutes define the Municipal Clerk's responsibilities as:
- Secretary to the Governing Body
- Secretary to the Municipal Corporation
- Administrative and Licensing Officer
- Election Administrator
and Registrar of Voters
- Custodian of Records
However, these core duties reflect just a portion of the
many responsibilities and activities of the Municipal Clerk's
Office.

 Census participation is easy.
Census forms will be delivered or mailed to households in March 2010.
One of the shortest census forms in U.S. Census history, the 2010 Census form asks 10 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Mailing back your form is the easiest way to participate in the 2010 Census.
Upon receipt, complete and return the census form in the postage-paid, return envelope. Responses to the census form should include everyone living at your address; relatives and non-relatives.
Census workers will visit households that do not return forms to take a count in person.

 One of the most important civic events for our nation is fast approaching the 2010 Census. In March, all Montclair households will receive their 2010 Census form. As required by the U.S. Constitution, it is important that every household in completes and mails back a form as soon as possible. Lack of participation can result in our community receiving less federal funding and less access to important services and resources that we might otherwise receive. Thats why Montclair has partnered with the U.S. Census Bureau to encourage participation in the 2010 Census and help achieve a complete and accurate count.
One of the shortest census forms in history, the 2010 Census form asks 10 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The individual in whose name the housing unit is rented or owned should complete the form on behalf of every person living there relatives and non-relatives. Take 10 minutes to fill out the form and mail it back. Its easy.
