Montclair is seeking responsible and motivated, 911 and EMD trained individuals for positions in our Dispatch Center.  Starting salary is $37,000+ w/ benefits.  Any interested parties can send their resume to Sgt. General Statement of Duties: Staffs the E911 Dispatch Center and/or the Police Desk located at 647 Bloomfield Avenue and handles dispatching duties for Police, Fire and EMS. In addition, may be responsible for monitoring the cellblock and performing any other duties as directed by the supervisor in charge, including the monitoring of CCTV cameras.

Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the patrol supervisor in charge of the E911 Dispatch Center and Police Desk area of Police Headquarters.

Examples of Duties:  

• Receives telephone, radio, in person and computer requests for routine information and emergency situations.

• Prioritizes and dispatches emergency Police, Fire, and EMS units, and provides emergency first aid advice via telephone.

• Periodically checks the well being of prisoners in custody. May be required to perform prisoner searches.

• Staffs Police Desk and will direct civilians entering Police Headquarters.

• Writes police reports as directed.

• Enters into CAD computers information from Police reports and other data as deemed necessary. 

• Monitors CCTV cameras which are strategically placed throughout the Township for criminal and disorderly conduct and dispatches resources to investigate suspicious or illegal activity.

Criteria for becoming a Montclair Police Officer:

  • Current NJPTC Certified Police Officer or,
  • Alternate Route Graduate (Alternate Route) or,
  • Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II) and,
  • at least an Associates degree or two years Military experience
