Sweet Melissa CatSweet Melissa:
Peek-a-boo! Sweet Melissa loves a good game of hide-and-go-seek! While she easily entertains herself she prefers the companionship of other cats and humans to keep her amused. Fun-loving, playful, energetic. Sweet Melissa is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed.

Christy dog Christy
Christy is a bundle of fun! If you're looking for a high energy, devoted dog to partake in all your family activities Christy is the dog for you! Our behavior counselor feels that a little training will go a long way with Christy because she's so willing to please humans. Christy LOVES her toys so she should be spoiled with lots of them! 1 1/2 years old. Christy is one of the shelter's longest dog residents. Please adopt this orphan so that she can know the love of a forever family. Christy is fine with most other dogs but no cats please!

Christy is a Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull Terrier Mix and is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed.

For more information on Sweet Melissa, Christy, and other soon-to-be best friends, please call the Montclair Animal Shelter at 973-744-8600.

P&G Donates Tons of Cat Food To Township Animal Shelter Print E-mail
Animal Control

The Montclair Animal Shelter was the beneficiary of a very large quantity of IAMS Nutritionally Complete Cat Food. IAMS manufacturer Proctor & Gamble donated 72 pallets  - 48 tons - of the cat food to the shelter.

“The net worth of all this IAMS food is about $180,000 and will last us over a year,” said Health Department Project Administrator Celia Trembulak who contacted Proctor & Gamble’s IAMS headquarters shortly after the Animal Shelter opened. “We asked them if they’d be willing to donate some pet food but we never expected an 18-wheeler loaded with all those pallets to show up at the door,” she said. “With such a generous donation we were also able to also share some of the pallets with other shelters in need.”

For more information on the Montclair Animal Shelter, please contact the shelter at 973-744-8600.

Helping Wildlife in Distress Print E-mail
Animal Control

So you think that you may have orphaned, injured or displaced wildlife in your yard? Before you pick up the phone to contact Montclair Animal Control observe the animal and gather information. The following are questions we’ll ask you when you call about an animal in distress:

• What is the exact location and address of the animal?

• What does the animal look like? What color is it? Fur, Fins or Feathers? Size? Adult or Juvenile? How many animals are there?

• How long has the animal been at the location? Days, hours, minutes?

• What is it currently doing? How is it behaving?

• Is it limping? If it’s a bird or bat can it fly?

• Is there obvious injury or illness? For example, blood, broken bones, runny eyes or nose, etc.

• Are there insects present on or around the animal? Flies, Fleas, Ticks or Maggots.

• Is the animal vocalizing or is it completely quiet? If vocalizing how so and how frequently?

• Are there any other animals in the area? Predators? Parents?

Once these questions have been answered the Animal Control Officer may decide to have you further continue to observe the animal or they may immediately come out to assess the situation further. By being observant and not approaching the animal you too can help the wildlife in our community!
