MPD to Host National Night Out Aug 4 PDF Print E-mail

National Night Out logoThe Montclair Police Department’s Community Services Unit (CSU) will participate in a National Night Out event Tuesday, August 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Rather than a single central location for the event as was done in the past, the MPD will host events in each ward to make the event most convenient for all residents.

First Ward: Officer Glenda Rivera at St. James Church, 581 Valley Road.

Second Ward: Officer Rikki Cook at the Edgemont Park field house (Valley Road).

Third Ward: Officer Christopher Barnes at the Salvation Army Citadel, 13 Trinity Place.

Fourth Ward: Sgt. Tyrone Williams, Jr. at the Community Service Center, 11 Pine St.

By hosting the event in each ward, residents and business owners get to know their CSU ward liaisons while learning about safety and crime prevention. In turn, members of the MPD come to better understand the communities they serve.

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event created in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. It is held the first Tuesday in August each year.

A New Lease on Life for MTAS' Macy PDF Print E-mail

Macy en route to Spirit Animal SanctuaryThe stars simply were not aligning at all well for Macy, a young female mixed-breed dog once housed at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter. Two veterinary professionals deemed her to be a “high risk” dog who could not be socialized and was therefore unadoptable. Macy’s future seemed hopeless until a very generous donor stepped up to help fund a move to a happy, loving home.

Macy was brought to the shelter as a frightened puppy in April of 2013. After four months at the shelter, she was placed for adoption but was returned less than a month later. For nearly a year, she remained housed at the shelter, so afraid of new people, constantly nervous and unsure of her surroundings.
