Montclair Township launched its new web-based Emergency Alert System (EAS) which sends notifications to subscribers in the event of an emergency. Alerts will be sent to subscribers’ e-mail addresses and/or cell phones as text messages.
Residents can register for the new service on the township web site by clicking on the “sign up now” Emergency Alert System icon on the upper right-hand side of the home page.
“The new alert system allows us to better reach our residents in the event of an emergency and we urge everyone to sign up.” said Township Manager Joseph Hartnett. “The new EAS will not replace the Reverse 911 system already in place but will serve as a compliment to existing communication methods,” he said.
Residents who chose to receive alerts via text messages sent to their cellular phones will receive them even when away from home or if electric power is interrupted.
Qualis Group, a Montclair Information Technology company developed the alert system, which was paid for with a grant from the New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services.
"The Township recognizes that in the time of emergency there can never be enough channels of communication and current, accurate information is our most desired goal," said Hartnett. |
