The Township of Montclair will host an All-Children’s Playground Kick-Off Ceremony on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m. in Edgemont Park.
Featured performers at the ceremony will include Edgemont School children and Montclair-based musicians Parents Who Rock, who have contributed their time and talents to help fund the playground.
New specialized equipment at the All-Children’s Playground will allow all children, both abled and disabled, to play together in a shared environment. The playground is scheduled to open this fall.
This unique shared-environment playground was paid for by the public and private sectors. The Township Council appropriated $200,000, the state gave Montclair a $50,000 grant and $200,000 came from donors and fundraising events. The design and construction contract went out to bid in May of this year and was awarded to J.C. Landscaping, Inc. of Kinnelon, New Jersey for $282,00. Council also awarded a contract through the State Purchasing Program for Gametime Playgroud Equipment for $140,956.
“Township Council and I would like to thank the many generous supporters and volunteers with whose help this truly important project will now see fruition,” said Township Manager Joseph Hartnett. “The All Children’s Playground will be a symbol of Montclair’s commitment to diversity and inclusion for all our citizens.”
