Soon Montclair residents will have the opportunity to participate in the 2010 Census. Data collected during the census will help shape the future of our community and define our voice in the United States Congress.
How can you help — it’s easy. Every resident will receive a short questionnaire (only ten questions) asking name, age, gender, race, Hispanic origin, relationship to the householder, and whether your residence is owned or rented.
All answers are strictly confidential and cannot be shared with any federal, state or local agency.
How do you, our citizens, benefit from participating in the census? Over $400 billion dollars will be distributed to municipalities. Statistics show that in 2008, 38.9 million people were 65 and older. Monies provided to Montclair are used for a wide range of projects including planning for hospitals, nursing homes and clinics, designing facilities for people with disabilities and the elderly, attracting new businesses and determining areas eligible for housing assistance and rehabilitation loans.
Montclair residents have always been active participants in the life of our municipality as leaders, as volunteers and as members of our many organizations. Now it is time (and remember it just takes a short time) to participate in Census 2010 and reap the rewards for you and our community. |
