BULKY WASTE COLLECTION INFORMATION
Below is information Township residents need to be aware of concerning Montclair’s Bulky Waste collection.
In the State of New Jersey, solid waste (“refuse”) is regulated at the County level, and consequently Montclair’s refuse collection is controlled by the Essex County Utilities Authority (ECUA). The Township Department of Community Services has been notified that the Bulky Waste we collect - meaning the large items of waste material such as large furniture - must conform to ECUA’s listed definitions.
A maximum of three (3) large household items, such as mattresses, box springs, bathtubs, porcelain sinks, commodes, bureaus, tables, and other large items may be left at the curb by residents for collection. A complete list of acceptable Bulky Waste items is provided below..
Community Services will not take any household refuse as Bulk Waste, no matter how many items of one type are being discarded. Clearing out an attic room may result in twenty unwanted board games or ten old pairs of shoes requiring disposal, but bagging them together does not constitute Bulky Waste.
Up to one (1) garbage can, weighing no more than 75 lbs., of construction and demolition debris, meaning small amounts of wood, wallboard, tiles, sheetrock, and wooden shingles from construction, remodeling, repair, and demolition operations on houses, can be accepted. Concrete and asphalt, rocks and dirt are not acceptable.
Yard debris and household appliances (“white goods”) are not accepted as Bulky Waste. No cardboard boxes, or any other recyclables, may be discarded as Bulky Waste. Computers and consumer electronics can only be dropped off during specified recycling days. Dates, times and locations for computer and electronics recycling drop-offs will be posted on this web site.
If you have further questions, please contact the Department of Community Services at 973-509-5711.
