The Montclair Police Department is offering its first Citizens' Police Academy which focuses on modern police practices and responsibilities.
The free program will be offered annually. It provides a first-hand look at various Police Department functions and familiarizes participants with criminal law and legal procedures.
The eleven-session program will be held at the Essex County College Police Academy, located at 250 Grove Avenue in Cedar Grove. Montclair Police Officers and officers from other county and state agencies will provide course instruction.
Academy classes meet every Tuesday from 7:00-10:00 p.m., from September 12, through December 5, 2006. Two optional Saturday sessions will be available to participants – these dates will be announced at a later time.
The Citizens’ Police Academy is open to Montclair residents and Township Employees 21 years of age or older. Class sizes are limited to 25 persons and space is available on a first-come first-served basis.
