Please be alert to signs and symptoms of heat related illness such as dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, nausea, profuse sweating and thirst. If you experience any of these symptoms, please seek medical treatment immediately. Please also check on elderly neighbors. Young children and persons aged 65 and over are at an increased risk.
To keep cool:
- Drink plenty of water/fluids. Do not drink alcoholic beverages and beverages that contain caffeine. They can cause you to lose more body fluid. Dont wait until you are thirsty to drink.
- Wear loose fitting, lightweight clothing.
- Take cool showers or sponge body surface with cool water.
- Use a battery operated fan if electric is out.
Please call the Department of Health and Human Services at 973-509-4970 with any questions or concerns.
