has also earned a reputation for building effective community
collaborations and fostering successful public/private
partnerships. A resident since 1968, Joyce Michaelson
has helped shape public education in Montclair for more

in Montclair, raising funds and awarding grants for programs
such as teacher-initiated classroom projects and summer
scholarships for students. The MFEE also partners with
the school system to realize district-wide goals such
as enhancing school libraries, establishing after-school
tutoring centers, creating small learning communities
within the high school, and addressing the achievement
gap.
Joyce was raised in New York City and earned a bachelor's
degree in economics from Wellesley College, followed by
graduate work in economics at NYU. She also is a graduate
of Penn State's Executive Management Program.
A career in administration, planning and finance has provided
Joyce with a unique set of abilities that serve Montclair
well. She began her career at New Jersey Bell in market
and opinion research before moving on to long range and
strategic planning for the firm. At AT&T she worked
in financial accountability, pricing and strategic alliances.
