Gerry Tobin was first elected to the Montclair Township Council on May 9, 2000 with the ADVANCE MONTCLAIR slate.  He was re-elected with over 60% of the vote with the LEADERSHIP MONTCLAIR slate in 2004.  A 23 year resident of Montclair, Gerry had long been active in Township affairs before being elected to the Council and over the years worked on some of the Township’ s most pressing issues.  For many years he was the chair of the Township’s Ad Hoc Committee on the Montclair Connection and advised four Township Councils on issues related to the Connection.  He served as the Chair of the Township’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee and as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

During his tenure on the Council, Gerry has served on many boards and committees.  He currently serves on the Planning Board, Board of School Estimate, and as a Commissioner of the Self-Insurance Commission. He is a member of the board of the Montclair Economic Development Corporation and is liaison to the Montclair Historic Preservation Commission.  He has served as the liaison to the Environmental Commission, the Cable Television Committee and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Committee.  He is currently Chair of the Township’s Facilities Committee and of the Task force on the Reconstruction of the Upper Montclair Train Station.
