Ted
Mattox came to Montclair six years ago attracted by
the diversity of the community, its residential nature
and the quality of life it offered his family. Ted is
excited to have the opportunity to join with an experienced
group of leaders to lend his energy and skills to Montclair
municipal government. His vision and experience in product
testing, communications and negotiations are readily
applicable
to the Township.
Ted Mattox has been an innovative leader
in the marketing, communications and Internet industries
for more than 18
years. His creative style, straightforward approach and
out-of-the-box thinking have helped launch a wide range
of successful business ventures.
Ted was employed as Director
of Multimedia Publishing and New Business Development
for Consumers Union, the not-for-profit
publisher of Consumer Reports Magazine. At Consumers Union,
Mattox expanded and solidified the Consumer Reports strategic
alliances with major media and commercial outlets. He
negotiated multi-million dollar business deals with such
clients as Yahoo!, America Online and MSN. Ted shares
the organizations’ mission of providing unbiased
testing and information to protect consumers from unsafe
and/or unproductive consumer products.
Prior to joining
Consumers Union, Ted was employed by NBC and CBS Television
Networks where his teams launched
seasons of successful network television programming,
the CBS and NBC.com websites and managed the NBC “Must
See TV” promotional campaign.
While at NBC, he created
the largest Internet event to date, brining together artists
and entertainers from Quincy
Jones to Toni Braxton for a month of daily Internet chat
sessions. Before joining the media industry, Mr. Mattox
worked with Sony Corporation of North America in its Business
and Professional Products Group.
Ted is the recipient of
numerous professional and community awards, including
the New Media Invision award, the Harlem
YMCA Man of the Year award, and the Sony Star Power award.
His diverse community involvement has included longtime
support of the United Negro College Fund, work with Dr.
Dorothy Height and the National Council of Negro Women,
raising funds and securing donations for Hale House in
New York and earning recognition for being a Partner in
Education with the New York City public schools.
Ted is
married to Kuae and has three young children – a
preschooler, a pre-K’er and a public school student.
