FIRE SAFETY IN THE KITCHEN |
In order to drastically reduce your risk of a cooking fire, follow this recipe for safety:
Stay in the kitchen, dont become distracted leaving the cooking unattended. Wear short or close fitting sleeves. Long loose sleeves are more likely to catch on fire or get caught on pot handles Turn pot handles inward to prevent spills and/or burns. Keep the area around the stove clear of anything that could burn (papers, pot holders, towels, books) Watch children closely and enforce a kid-free zone of approximately 3 feet around the stove. Cook at indicated temperatures settings rather than higher settings. Regularly clean your cooking equipment to prevent food and grease build-up. Always have a pot lid handy to slide over flames and smother the fire. Dont pick up the pan, but make sure to turn off the heat and let the pan cool. Use baking soda to extinguish other types of food fires. Do not use water on cooking fires. It will cause splashing and spread the fire. For emergencies call 911
