Wilhelm B. Young was sworn in as a Lieutenant of the Montclair Police Department earlier this week during a ceremony held in township Council Chambers. Lt. Young started his career with the Montclair Police Department in 1993. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 2004 and to Lieutenant during the August 26 ceremony.

Lt. Young has served the department in various assignments including the Narcotics Bureau, Detective Bureau, Firearms Instructor, Critical Response Team (CRT) member, and the Street Crimes Unit (SCU) Commander.

The Montclair Recreation 30 and over men's softball league held its championship game at Nishuane Park two weeks ago where the Overlookers of Montclair, managed by Jordan Safirstein, defeated the 2013 defending champions the Zombies in extra innings by a score of 18-16 in a well-played game.

The Overlooks entered the playoffs as a number 4 seed and defeated the top seeded Mad Dawgs in the semi-finals in an earlier game that morning, to reach the finals against the Zombies.

Police Seek Suspect Involved in Two Robberies at Gunpoint PDF Print E-mail

The Montclair Police Department reports that a 22-year-old Newark man was robbed at gunpoint on Lackawanna Plaza around 10:30 p.m. last night.

The suspect is described as black male in his 20s, about 5’ 9” tall, thin build, with short black hair. The suspect was wearing a black cloth covering the lower half of his face and was brandishing a silver-colored handgun. He demanded the victim’s money and cell phone. The victim turned over his iPhone 5 in a blue case. The suspect then fled eastbound on foot.

Immunization is especially important for adults 60 years of age and older, and for those who have a chronic condition such as asthma, COPD, diabetes or heart disease.
