MONTCLAIR, NEW JERSEY April 23, 2009
The Council of the Township of Montclair, in the County of Essex, met in the Conference Room in the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Avenue, for a Budget Meeting at 5:02 P.M.
Present: Mayor Fried, Deputy Mayor Terry and Councilors Africk, Murnick and Weller.
Absent: Councilors Baskerville and Lewis
STATEMENT OF SUNSHINE NOTICE
The Council reviewed several scenarios for introduction of the budget.
Council members discussed various items to be included or excluded in the introduced budget.
Mayor Fried questioned the numbers/revenue side and tax base side for tax appeals.
Township Manager Joseph Hartnett referenced possible shared services with Montclair State University as a significant impact on future revenue. He also noted possible expenses that might be reduced through grants, etc.
Other items for consideration:
- Montclair Parking Authority: solar panels to be funded over time.
- Traffic calming
- UCC fee maximization
- Prescription deductibles
- More complete pools analyses
- Increase in pool fees
- Refinancing debt service
- Analysis of monies expended to date
- “Dream your wildest dream” department desires
- Increase use of grants.

by unanimous vote.
