On June 27, 2012 at approx. 2031 hours, police randomly check the vehicle registration of a 2004 GMC Envoy while on patrol. The check revealed that the operator of the vehicle was a suspended driver. A motor vehicle stop was conducted near Elmwood Avenue and Maple Avenue. The operator of the vehicle was not the registered owner. When the operator was asked if he had a valid driver’s license he advised the officer that he too was a suspended driver. A check through dispatch revealed that forty nine year old Maximo Diaz of Newark was not only a suspended driver, but that he also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. A $300.00 traffic warrant out of Jersey City and a No bail criminal warrant out of Atlantic City. Mr. Maximo was placed under arrest without incident.
On June 28, 2012 at approx. 1014hours, officers responded the Muscle Maker Grill on Park Street to take a report of vandalism. The caller informed police that sometime between 2200 hours on June 27th and 0700 hours on the 28th someone cut and ripped the awning of the store. The damage was about four feet long and two inches wide. Anyone with information contact the police department.
On June 28, 2012 at approx. 1726hours, patrol officers responded to a Pine Street address on a report of stolen patio furniture. The caller informed police that he left at approx 0630 hours and when he returned at 1730 his patio furniture was missing from the front porch. Two chairs and a metal table with glass face were taken. Anyone with information contact Det. J. Anderson at 973 509 4706.
On June 29th at approx. 1300 hours, Detectives had conducted an investigation into two thefts of cash that had occurred at Montclair Radiology on Park Street reported to police on the 19th and 20th of June. Twenty one year old Hector Aponte of Belleville was interviewed regarding the thefts. Mr. Aponte had been caught on video stealing the cash. Mr. Aponte admitted to stealing the $172.00 and $186.00 in both incidents, as well as thefts at two other Montclair Radiology locations in Essex County. Mr. Aponte was arrested and charged with both thefts.
On June 29th at approx. 1332 hours, officers responded to King’s Supermarket on Valley Road on a report of a shoplifting that had occurred. The caller advised police that he chased the subject into the rear of the property where he dropped a duffel bag that contained 11 six packs of Dove bar soap. A description was given to responding units and after a brief search forty two year old Jonathan Jenkins was located and arrested for the shoplifting.
On 06/29/2012 at approx. 194 hours police observed a silver Infiniti traveling south on Orange Road. They recognized the driver to be thirty five year old David Gunthorpe of North Plainfield. They were aware Mr. Gunthorpe had outstanding warrants for his arrest. Dispatch confirmed the warrants, $1000.00 out of Irvington and $500.00 out of Newark. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop near Orange and High Street where Mr. Gunthorpe was place under arrest for these warrants. Further investigation found Mr. Gunthorpe to be in possession of MDMA (Ecstacy). He was charged with possession of MDMA and given a $25,000.00 cash bail.
On June 30th at approx 1725 hours, Detectives observed Roy Ponton Jr. in the area Grove Street near Bloomfield Avenue. They were aware Mr. Ponton had an outstanding warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff;s Department. They confirmed the warrant through dispatch and then stopped and arrested Mr. Ponton near Grove Street and Bloomfield Avenue. After being arrested Mr. Ponton was found to be in possession of three glassine envelopes containing Heroin. Mr. Ponton was charged with Possession of Heroin and given a $5,000.00 cash bail.
On July 7th 2012 at approx. 0609 hours, a Montclair resident came to the lobby of police headquarters to report vandalism to his vehicle. He informed officers that he parked his maroon Lexus in the vacant lot near the Thai Chef restaurant at approx. 2100 hours on the 30th. When he woke up the next morning July 1st he found writing painted on the trunk of the vehicle.
On July 02, 2012 at approx. 1012 hours, police responded to the Whole Foods Supermarket on a report of an employee theft. Officers were informed that an employee had been confronted by and admitted to stealing $914.16. The employee had been interviewed by their loss prevention staff and admitted to taking the cash by voiding out two purchases made during the work shift. At the end of her shift the cash was taken. Nineteen year old Taylor Barnes of Orange was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of theft by Whole Foods Supermarket. She was released pending her court hearing.
On July 3rd at approx. 0034 hours, officers observed a Gray BMW traveling west bound on Bloomfield Avenue make an illegal left hand turn on to Church Street. A motor vehicle stop was conducted at South Park Street and Church Street. A check of the operator’s license revealed he was the registered owner and that his license was suspended. He also had a $500.00 outstanding warrant for his arrest out of the city of East Orange. Twenty two year old Joseph Geraldo of Nutley was place under arrest without incident.
