MONTCLAIR, NJ – Today, Essex County Freeholder Vice President Brendan Gill announced that the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders passed an ordinance he sponsored that would prohibit smoking in Essex County Parks.

“It’s our priority to ensure the children and families utilizing Essex County’s parks have a safe and healthy environment to enjoy, and this resolution takes a significant step in that direction,” said Freeholder Gill. "The dangers that tobacco and second hand smoke pose are well-documented, so we must take every step possible to ensure that Essex County residents have access to the basic right of clean air. Thursday, October 8, 2015Montclair Police Department Patch

The Montclair Police Department Community Service Unit will launch its Drug Drop Box initiative on Friday, October 9 at 4:00 p.m. at Police Department Headquarters, 647 Bloomfield Avenue. The program allows residents to properly dispose of any old or unused prescription and over-the-counter medications by dropping them off at the box which is mounted in the lobby of Police Headquarters. The drop box program was organized in conjunction with the Essex County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT).

Research shows that 70% of individuals who abuse prescription and/or over-the-counter medication get access to them from the medicine cabinet or household of a friend or family member. Raising awareness about prescription and over-the-counter medication abuse and building a safe and healthy community are the key goals of this joint project.

The Police Community Service Unit partnered with several local organizations to decorate the Drug Drop Box. Local youth from the following organizations helped with decoration efforts:

Girl Scouts
Montclair Police Athletic League
Montclair Police Department, Community Service Unit (CSU)

All are welcome to the launch of this new resource for the community.

Friday, September 18, 2015ALT

The Montclair Police Department Community Service Unit (CSU) announces its next “Coffee with a Cop” event which will take place Friday, October 9, 9:30 a.m., at Trend Coffee and Tea House, 411 Bloomfield Avenue. The idea behind “Coffee With A Cop” is to afford the public an opportunity to meet and speak with local law enforcement professionals in an open and friendly atmosphere.

Montclair’s CSU strives to form partnerships with all of Montclair -- residents as well as businesses. All too often, the community only interacts with the police in times of crisis. “Coffee with a Cop” is an effort to foster positive relationships with the police.

The program has already proved successful in over 175 police agencies in 36 states. The public may ask questions of the officers or just pop in to meet the person in uniform and say hello over a nice hot cup of coffee.
