Community Development Block Grants

Montclair Township typically receives approximately $300,000 annually in HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.  These funds are largely used for capital projects within eligible areas of the Township. Some of the funds are available to non-profit organizations whose projects benefit primarily persons of low and moderate income such as substance abuse counseling and youth programs.

Applications for federal funds under HUD’s 2019 Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG) are now available from the Montclair Department of Planning & Community Development.   According to Planning Director Janice Talley, Montclair anticipates receiving $320,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds in the 2019 program year.  A public hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 7 at 6:00 pm in the 2nd Floor conference room at 205 Claremont Avenue to discuss the application process.  Those interested in submitting an application should attend.  Completed applications are due in the Montclair Planning Department by noon on Friday, November 30.

A second public hearing for the 2019 application cycle has been scheduled by the Township Council for Tuesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber in the Municipal Building, 205 Claremont Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey, to solicit public comment.  Applicants requesting $10,000 or more in funding must present their request at the public hearing.  Those interested in addressing the Council as to how and where the grant money should be allocated are encouraged to attend.
