Thinking ahead to Fall

Montclair Recreation is pleased to offer the following programs/activities.

2021 Montclair Recreation Fall Activities

Girls Field Hockey Clinic (Grades 3-4)

  • Fee: $65.00
  • Registration opens September 1st. Register at register.communitypass.net/montclair.
  • Saturday mornings 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
  • Buzz Aldrin Field, Bellevue Avenue
  • Clinic Dates -September 25, October 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30

Learn the basic skills of field hockey for beginners and intermediate players. The game will teach hand & eye coordination, self-confidence and teamwork in an organized setting.
This is a clinic style format, giving beginners a chance to work on skill sets and the understanding of the sport before game play. Groups will rotate locations and play simulated games vs surrounding towns.

Participants must bring their own equipment: stick, goggles, shin guards and cleats, (sneakers are okay). Support a local business, consider All Lacrosse for your equipment needs.

Practice jersey will be supplied.

Volunteer Coaches are a staple for recreation level activities and needed to successfully run the program. Experience is not necessary. Background check and certification are REQUIRED. Coaches can also register in Community Pass.

Girls Field Hockey (Grades 5-6)

  • Fee is $85.00
  • Registration closes August 20th. Register at register.communitypass.net/montclair.
  • Practices will be held Thursdays 5:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
  • Buzz Aldrin field (until Watchung field is completed)
  • Dates TBA

Local travel team. Will play scheduled games vs surrounding towns from the Suburban field hockey league throughout Essex County. Livingston, Millburn, Montville, West Caldwell, Fairfield, Roseland and Verona.

Participants must bring their own equipment sneakers/cleats (non-metal), shin guards, mouth guards and field hockey stick. Support a local business, consider All Lacrosse for your equipment needs.

Game jerseys will be provided.

Volunteer Coaches are a staple for recreation level activities and needed to successfully run the program. Experience is not necessary. Background check and certification are REQUIRED. Must be available weeknights 6pm-8pm and Saturdays. Coaches can also register in Community Pass.

Girls Field Hockey (Grades 7-8) – TBA

Co-Ed In Town FALL Flag Football

  • Fee is $85.00
  • Pee Wee Flag Grades 3-5
  • Midgets Flag Grades 6-8
  • Season: Mid-September - Early November

Registration closes September 1st. Register online at register.communitypass.net/montclair.

Practices: weeknights after 5:00 p.m. (Volunteer coaches schedule)

Games: Weeknights Monday-Thursday 5:30 p.m.

All games and practices held at Kaveny Field.

Teams will meet twice per week for games. Schedule depends on the number of teams.

Participants must bring sneakers/cleats (non-metal).

Jersey, flag belt and mouthguard will be provided.

Cross Country Track (Grades 4-8)

  • Fee is $85.00
  • Registration opens July 22nd. Register at register.communitypass.net/montclair.
  • Program runs Tuesdays & Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday mornings 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Nishuane Park.

Participants will learn the basic skills of Cross Country running off track and compete on a recreational level vs the surrounding townships from the suburban league throughout Essex County.

Game jersey will be provided.

Pop Warner Football (Boys/Girls ages 5-14)

Once you have completed your registration, download the Player Packet from  www.montclairbulldogs.com or pick one up in the Recreation Office at 205 Claremont Avenue during regular business hours 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

  • Pop Warner Cheerleading for ages 5-14 (age is as of July 31, 2021)
  • Pop Warner Football for ages 5-14 (age is as of July 31, 2021)

The Bulldogs offer a structured and safe program for future football and cheerleading stars of Montclair. All 1st time players and cheerleaders are welcomed. No experience is necessary.

Season Play: Participants will learn the basic skills and knowledge of both sports and will also have the opportunity to compete against surrounding townships of the North Jersey Pop Warner league.

Teams will play an 8-week game season locally throughout Essex and Union counties with the opportunity to advance to Eastern regional play which includes teams from Upstate NY to Maryland and an opportunity to advance to the National tournament at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL.

Practices will begin Aug 2nd, 6:00 p.m. at Nishuane Park and will run every day from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday-Friday for the entire month of August.  Game season will begin Aug 29.

During the season, practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:00 - 7:30 p.m., at Hillside School and Nishuane Park.

Most games are on Sundays generally between 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., (some Saturdays).

Registration and paperwork must be completed before participating in practice. If you are going on vacation in August, please have your paperwork completed before you leave, to avoid any delays in participating.

Volunteer Coaches are a staple for recreation level activities and needed to successfully run the program. Experience is not necessary. Background check and certification are REQUIRED. The organization will train coaches. All coaches for both football and cheerleading must have background checks and certifications in order to coach. Coaches can also register in Community Pass.

The Recreation Department will follow all protective measures consistent with the current COVID 19 guidelines as directed by the CDC, state and local health departments. The Township of Montclair cannot guarantee that a communicable disease from a virus, including COVID-19, will not be present should you choose to participate in a sport or other activity or make use of any Township facility.  Facial coverings are required when social distancing cannot be maintained effectively.

Girls Volleyball (details coming soon)

Volleyball for Girls in Grades 7th-8th (limited space)

Participants must tryout to for team. Once player makes the team, the registration fee is due.  Fee is $85 (once you make the team)

Team will play 1-2 games per week weekday evenings some Saturdays.  Home matches and practices are at Montclair High School in the main gym. Away matches are at surrounding townships throughout Essex county.

Volunteer coaches are necessary to run the program. Questions about coaching?  Call the Recreation department.  Coaching experience is not necessary, will train.

Players must provide own knee pads and sneakers.  Recreation will provide the game jersey.
