Recreation Baseball/Softball

The Montclair Recreation Department program offers non-competitive leagues for boys and girls in grades 3-8. No experience necessary.

The fee is $120 per player. Registration opens January 6th and closes March 13th. Register online at register.communitypass.net or visit the Recreation office at 205 Claremont Avenue during regular business hours, 8:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday.

Players will be issued uniforms, but must purchase their own non-metal cleats, a glove and for boys, an athletic supporter (cup).

Season runs mid April to mid June. Games and practices are held weekdays at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9:00 or 11:00 a.m. Teams meet 2-3 times per week.

Baseball Divisions:

AAA (kid pitch) grades 3-4

This is an introductory level of baseball. Players will pitch to each other during games. Pitching distance is 43', bases are 60'. Limited stealing bases are permitted.  Big barrel bats are prohibited.

MAJORS” grades 5-6

Pitchers limited to 3 innings max per game, stealing is permitted 3 per inning per team. Pitching distance is 46', bases are 60'.
Big barrel bats are prohibited.

Intermediate (Middle School) Division for grades 7-8

This league is a competitive division played on a large field.  Pitching distance is 60’, bases are 90’.

Skills will be stressed on a larger sized field encouraging continued playing through High School. Games/Practices will be played on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday mornings 9:00 or 11:00 a.m.

Field location – Nishuane Park, 34 Cedar Ave. (large field)

Softball Divisions

All Teams will play in the Passaic  Valley Softball League and will play vs surrounding townships on a Recreation level. 

Beginner Level Grades 3-4
Jr Softball for grades 5-6 
Sr Softball for grades 7-8 

Teams will be formed by the Recreation Department ONLY. Requests will NOT be permitted.

Coaches and umpires  are greatly needed for all levels and leagues. Experience is not necessary, we will train. Coaches must be certified under the NAYS or Rutgers clinic. Online course must be completed before coaching a team.  Must be 21 or older and have a flexible schedule. 3 coaches max per team.
