Visiting Nurse Program for Senior Citizens

Free monthly nursing visits for any homebound resident of Montclair, Verona, and Cedar Grove, 62 years of age and over, who needs basic monitoring of his/her health conditions and chronic medical problems.

This program is partially funded by the Essex County Division of Senior Services and includes:

  • Physical Assessment
  • Psychosocial Assessment
  • Cardiopulmonary Monitoring
  • Dietary Review & Instructions
  • Medication Review & Instructions
  • Referral to appropriate community assistance programs

Tuberculosis Testing and Control Investigation

Mantoux/PPD Skin Testing and Reading

Clinics are held on the First and the Third Monday from 9:00 a.m. – 12noon. (If Monday falls on a holiday the clinic is Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.) Mantoux reading must be done 48-72 hours after the skin test.

Please speak to the nurse regarding cost of Mantoux testing and to schedule the reading.

Communicable Disease Surveillance and Education

New Jersey has developed an electronic, web-enabled system where public health partners statewide can instantly report and track incidences of communicable diseases. The Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance System (CDRSS) facilitates the timely reporting and immediate sharing of pertinent data, thus supporting appropriate public health responses, be they isolated incidences or multi-state outbreaks. The Montclair public health nurses monitor reports of Communicable Diseases and communicate with Doctors, Hospitals, Schools and residents to ensure appropriate follow up.


Women’s and Men’s Health Clinic:

Cancer Screenings for Women & Men – SAVE Program Screening Access Value to Essex Residents- SAVE is supported by Rutgers NJMS, University Hospital and the New Jersey Department of Health CEED project:

  • Clinical breast exam
  • Pelvic exam
  • PAP Smear
  • Mammogram
  • Colorectal Cancer Screening
  • PAP Smear Tests Prostate Cancer Screening

Blood Pressure Screenings

The public health nurse conducts blood pressure screenings "on site" at various locations monthly.

The schedule is as follows:

  • First Montclair House, 56 Walnut Street, Montclair on the first Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
  • South End Gardens, 340 Orange Road, Montclair on the third Tuesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
  • Cedar Grove Municipal Building, 525 Pompton Avenue , Cedar Grove on the third Wednesday of the month from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m..
  • Cedar Ridge Drive, 100 Cedar Ridge Drive, Cedar Grove on the fourth Thursday of the month from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
  • Verona Hillwood Terrace, 100 Hillwood Terrace, Verona on the fourth Monday of the month from 9:00 - 11:00 am..

Adult and Adolescent Immunization

The Montclair Health Department offers an Adolescent Immunization Clinic (ages 11-18) and an Adult Immunization Clinic (age 19 and older).

Our Immunization Clinics are held on the first and the third Mondays of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the Montclair Health Department, 205 Claremont Avenue, third floor. Vaccines offered include: M.M.R. (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella), Tdap (Tetanus), Polio, Meningococcal, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, Flu and Pneumococcal, HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) and Shingles.

Montclair Health Department participates in The New Jersey Vaccines for Children (NJVFC) Program which is federally funded. NJVFC manages 2 distinct programs: Vaccines for Children

Program (VFC), and 317-Funded Adult (317) Program.
