Civil Rights Commission

The Montclair Civil Rights Commission (CRC) serves as an advisory board to the Township Council. The CRC recommends programs designed to eliminate discrimination, addresses problems involving tensions in the community, and reviews the Township Affirmative Action Policy. Enabling law can be found at: The CRC has four committees: Public Safety (Police and Fire department issues), Education, Affordable Housing, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

We are grieving the murders of Ahmad Aubrey, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless other black women and black men, LGBTQIA, AAPI and other groups who continue to suffer and die due to discrimination. As Commissioners of the CRC, we must continue fighting for substantive and procedural equality, fairness, and justice. We are all created equal, and we are patently aware, not everyone is treated with equity, respect, fairness, and justice. We support and stand next to all individuals regardless of their race, creed, color, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, marital status, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States or nationality. We demand REAL equality for ALL. We are charged with identifying and investigating discrimination with a focus and with the hope of stopping racist and discriminatory conduct. Let us continue to focus on initiatives that focus on initiatives that represent, support, and promote justice for all people.
