Marriage, Union Reaffirmation Requests

Below is the list of requirements when applying for a marriage, remarriage, civil union or reaffirmation of civil union license. Download application.
  1. Either applicant MUST reside in Montclair or if residents of another state must arrange to have marriage ceremony in Montclair. Both applicants must show proof of identity such as your Drivers License, Passport or State/Federal I.D. Both applicants must also show proof of residency. If your current address is not on your Drivers License, two other forms of I.D. showing name and address will be required Ex: Utility Bill, (last 90 days) Telephone Bill, Tax Return, Pay Stub, Bank Statement, Lease or Rental Agreement..
  2. Both Applicants must come in together with only one witness over 18 years of age.
  3. Your Social Security card or Social Security number is required by law and will be kept confidential, any document in a foreign language must be accompanied by a certified English translation and a Professional translator must be present when completing the application, if either applicant does not speak or understand English.
  4. Appointment required: Monday-Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., at least 10 days before the ceremony to ensure appointment is available (including 72-hour waiting period).
  5. Must know date of marriage, where marriage is being held and who is performing the ceremony before appointment is made.
  6. There is a Mandatory 72-hour waiting period before license will be issued.
  7. License valid 30 days after being issued.
  8. Fee $28 – cash/check/money order/credit cards accepted.
