Wrestling Boys/Girls Grades 3-8

Our wrestling program is designed for boys and girls in Grades 3-8. They will learn wrestling techniques in preparation for wrestling matches. Novice leagues for inexperiencewrestlers Recreation level matches vs Surrounding townships through out Essex county.

Practices are held two nights a week, Monday and Thursday, at the Montclair High School wrestling room located at 100 Chestnut St. (Use Midland Avenue entrance for gym.)

Practice will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. The season will officially s art on November 14 and will run until the end of March

Wrestlers are responsiblefor purchasing own wrestling shoes and head gear. Singlet (Uniform) is supplied.

Space is limited! Fee is $100.

Skills and Drills Basketball

Learn the basic skills of basketball with Recreation. Participants will learn how to dribble, pass, shoot and learn teamwork through drills and simulated game play. Program is designed for Boys/Girls in grades 2-5. Each grade will have a day of the week to report for sessions.

  • Grade 2 Mondays 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Grade 3 Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Grade 4 Wednesday 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Grade 5 Thursday 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Saturday Morning sessions will begin in January. Participants must wear sneakers, shorts or sweatpants. Shirts will be issued by recreation.

Suburban Basketball Boys and Girls in grades 5-8

Montclair Recreation in collaboration with Montclair PAL offers teams to compete in the Recreation suburban league. Which is designed for surround recreational levels competition versus surrounding townships through out Essex county.

Games will be played weeknights 6pm or after and Saturdays (Various times) Home and Away games. For teams, please log onto the Montclair Pal website www.montclairpal.org for more information of practices and teams. Recreation handles the scheduling of teams and practices. Practice sessions begin Mid October-November. Game season begins December-End of February.

Participants must tryout for teams.

The Ski Trip – Registration Now Closed

For ages 12-17

Our annual after school ski trip to Mountain Creek is back after a two-year hiatus! The buses will leave Montclair High School at 3:00 p.m. and return to MHS around 10:00 p.m. The trips are on Thursdays and the dates are January 12th, 19th, 26th, February 2nd, and February 9th.

In the event of cancellations, we will add additional trips on subsequent Thursdays~

Here's how to register:

  1. You must register for the Bus first, login to your account at www.communitypass.net. Click on 'Browse Activities" and under 2022 Fall Winter Activities, select 2023 Ski Trip and follow the prompts. The cost is for the Bus portion only and is $160.
  2. After you have registered for the Bus, we will email you the link and pin to register with Mountain Creek for the ski and rental options.
  3. There are several different ski options available:
    1. All Access Season Pass: Pass with no restrictions.
    2. Value Pass: Pass with some blackout dates.
    3. 5 Trip Lift Card = $149.99
    4. 5 Trip Equipment Rental = $129.99
  4. Lessons are included in all trips and are required for Beginners.

The All Access and Value Passes prices varies but the lowest price is available until October 4th, 2022, plus the additional $10 discount versus the general public.

LASTLY – Mountain Creek is a fully cashless resort. They accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, debit, credit or gift cards for Visa, MC, Amex or Discover. In addition, they have a reverse ATM in the lodge. Montclair Fencing Club

Montclair Fencing Club is officially open for registration for the Fall Season! SPACE IS LIMITED!

Attention Middle Schoolers! Boys and Girls from grades 6th-8th can learn the basic skills of fencing in a three-week course led by Montclair High School head coach and members of the Montclair High School Varsity Fencing team. The purpose of the program is for kids to gain interest in fencing, that could eventually lean towards participating on the Montclair High School team.

The program runs from October 18th - November 3rd, 2022.

Practices: Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

To be held at George Inness Annex Gym ( Freshman Building) 141 Park Street, Montclair, NJ, 07042.

Participants must wear long pants and sneakers. Bring your own water bottle. Signed parental permission slips are required prior to first class.

Girls Suburban Volleyball Grades 7&8

Practices will be held twice a week in the evenings at the Montclair High School Gym. (days of the week will be determined by the game schedule TBA)

Matches will be played home and away. This league will play against area towns including Caldwell, West Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Livingston, Verona, West Orange, Orange, Bloomfield, and Montville.

Girls Field Hockey: Girls entering grades 5-8

MYFH Rec League:

We are a recreational field hockey league run by volunteer parents in coordination with the Montclair Recreation Department.

Our mission:

Develop young athletes to work as a team; build foundational field hockey skills, provide a positive environment for players to develop as athletes and leaders.

When/Where we practice:

Watchung field – Tuesdays & Fridays from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. (~10 weeks)

Our games:

Saturday / Sunday afternoons
Home games will be at Watchung field. Away games will be within a 30-minute drive maximum on Saturday afternoons.

Equipment:

Field hockey stick, mouth guard, shin guards which cover ankles (slightly different from soccer). Players may also wish to have protective goggles. Lots of loaner sticks available.

Uniforms:

Uniforms will be provided by MYFH. We are very pleased to provide full uniforms this year (reversible racer back and skirt). Players will need to purchase at least 2 pairs of soccer socks (cover shin guards) – one pair black and one pair white.

Waver Form:

Please submit liability waiver form with check or at first practice.

Fees: ($190/player)

Fees due as soon as possible. We need to cover league dues/uniforms/ref fees etc. - so your help submitting timely payment is greatly appreciated.

Participants  learn the basic skills of Cross Country running off track and compete on a recreational level vs the surrounding townships from the suburban league throughout Essex County.

Jersey will be provided.

Volunteer Coaches are a staple for recreation level activities and needed to successfully run the program. Experience is not necessary. Background check and certification are REQUIRED. Coaches can also register in Community Pass.

Pop Warner Football/Cheerleading

The Bulldogs offer a structured and safe program for future football and cheerleading stars of Montclair. All 1st time players and cheerleaders are welcomed. No experience is necessary.

Season Play:Participants will learn the basic skills and knowledge of both sports and will also have the opportunity to compete against surrounding townships of the North Jersey Pop Warner league.

Teams will play an 8-week game season locally throughout Essex and Union counties with the opportunity to advance to Eastern regional play which includes teams from Upstate NY toMaryland and an opportunity to advance to the National tournament at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL.

Practices will begin Aug 1st-12th 6:00 p.m. at Nishuane Park and will run every day from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. Game season will begin Aug 28th. During the season, practices are held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Hillside school (cheer) and Nishuane park (football). Most games are on Sundays generally between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (some Saturdays).

Registration and paperwork must be completed before participating in practice. If you are going on vacation in August, please have your paperwork completed before you leave, to avoid any delays in participating.

Volunteer Coaches are a staple for recreation level activities and needed to successfully run the program. Experience is not necessary. Background check and certification are REQUIRED.The organization will train coaches. All coaches for both football and cheerleading must have background checks and certifications in order to coach. Coaches can also register in Community Pass.

The Recreation Department will follow all protective measures consistent with the current COVID 19 guidelines as directed by the CDC, state and local health departments. The Township of Montclair cannot guarantee that a communicable disease from a virus, including COVID-19, will not be present should you choose to participate in a sport or other activity or make use of any Township facility. Facial coverings are required when social distancing cannot be maintained effectively.

Fall Recreation is open!

The first games of the season will be played on Saturday,September 24, 2022.All games are scheduled for Saturdays.There are 9 consecutive weeks in the season, with the last games being played on November 19th.There will be no make up games for games cancelled due to weather, field conditions, or public health issues.Game schedules are not usually published until just before the start of the season and are dependent on field availability and the number of teams in a division.

Game schedules will be posted on line as soon as they are finalized.In the fall, boys' teams will be scheduled to play from the morning to early afternoon on Saturdays, girl's teams will be scheduled to play from about noon to early evening on Saturdays.The older COED division games are usually played in the afternoon to evening. All games are approximately 55 minutes long from start to finish.

Kinder Kickers and Little Strikers

Meet once a week on Saturdays only beginning on September 24th. Kinder Kickers and Little Strikerswill play at Nishuane School Field.

Fall 2022 In-house Fall Baseball League

Welcome to the Fall 2022 In-house Fall Baseball League Registration with Montclair Baseball and Softball Club.

Instead of fielding travel baseball teams at the 7U and 8U levels, we've created our own in-house Fall league.

The league will be geared towards players born 5/1/13thru 4/30/15. We will create four evenly skilled teams with 12 to 13 players each. There will be umpires, kids pitching, base stealing, uniforms, standings and a championship game.

Each team will practice one day during the week and play games on Sunday mornings. The season begins the week of Sept 5th and run thru the end of October.

Cost: $205.

T-Ball and CoachPitch Baseball

We are happy to announce our continued partnership with the Montclair YMCAfor our T-Ball and CoachPitch Baseball programs. Making a positive impact on Montclair since 1891, the YMCA has a legacy of running quality youth programs across our community. The YMCA staff will be leading all the on-field instruction and games this Fall.

T-Ball is an introduction to baseball geared for our youngest players (primarily Pre-K & Kindergarten).The sessions are developmental and it is required that parents/caregivers stay at the sessions to oversee their child(ren).

Parent/caregiver volunteers are encouraged, no prior baseball experience is necessary.

Families will be able to request other families they would like to be paired with to create player pods. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. Shirts and hats will be distributed to all players.

T-Ball will be an 8-week program running September 10th thru October 29th. Sessions will run on Saturdays from 9:00to 10AM at Edgemont Park in Montclair.

Cost is $150.00 per player

Rookie Softball

Rookie Softball is an introduction to softball geared for our younger players (primarily 1st & 2nd graders).

This introductory program instructs players on the basic fundamentals of softball through drills and simulated gameplay.

Parent/caregiver volunteers are welcome, no prior softball experience is necessary.

Rookie Softball will be an8week program September 11th thru October 30th. Sessions will run on Sunday's from 3:00 to 4:30PM at Edgemont Park in Montclair. Shirts will be distributed to all players.

Cost is $150.00 per player
