Why is Seniorama 2018 different from past years?

For those who have attended the Senior Citizens Advisory Committee (SCAC) annual Seniorama over the past twenty years, you know the SCAC strives to do something different each year. And, no surprise, this year’s November 8, 2018 experience is really very different! Let us count the ways.

For starters, Seniorama, 2018 is part of a larger event called the Changing Aging Tour, developed by Harvard-trained geriatrician, Dr. Bill Thomas. Dr. Thomas offers us a fresh and challenging look at how we view our third stage of life. Using dramatic presentations to stimulate our thinking on the subject, the Changing Aging Tour will explore this years’ theme: “What if everything we think we know about aging is WRONG?”

This November 8 experience will be comprised of the:

  • SCAC Seniorama Vendor Expo in the Lobby of the Montclair High School (4:00 - 6:00 p.m.) and
  • two live ChangingAging theatrical productions with music and storytelling (2:30 – 4:00 p.m.; 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.)

Folks of all ages will find this experience thought-provoking. Over 20 vendors will be on hand to engage participants in activity and conversation. Montclair State University’s Center for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, recently in the news, will be present, as will the Radical Aging project, the Montclair History Center and many more.

Held at the Montclair High School auditorium on Thursday, Nov 8 in the late afternoon and into the evening, this Seniorama will, as it always has, offer information, challenges, and door prizes.

Generous support from the following sponsors has made this program possible: Valley Health System; Lifelong Montclair; and West Side Presbyterian Church; as well as the Montclair Department of Health & Human Services; Partners for Health Foundation; The Henry & Marilyn Taub Foundation; Clara Maass Medical Center; The Montclair Senior Citizens Advisory Committee; Grotta Fund for Senior Care; The Jewish Home Family; Green Hill; and AARP New Jersey.

The complete experience starts at 2:30 p.m. with a ninety minute dramatic production, followed by the Seniorama 2018 Lobby Experience from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and concluding with a second ninety minute dramatic production from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Participants who elect to stay for the entire experience will be able to purchase food from mobile trucks which will be stationed in the oval in front of the Auditorium.
