MFD Rescues Driver Trapped in CarThe Montclair Fire Department (MFD) received a call yesterday at 5:02 p.m. reporting a fallen tree on top of a car on Bloomfield Avenue in Glen Ridge with someone was trapped inside.

M FD’s Battalion 3, Truck 1, Engine 1 and Engine 3 responded to the scene, which turned out to be on High Street just off Bloomfield Avenue in Glen Ridge.

Units arrived to find that a large tree had fallen on top of a Volkswagen Jetta, collapsing the vehicle around the occupant. In order to gain access to the vehicle, MFD members had to first use chainsaws to remove sections of the tree. They were then able to use hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to spread and cut the vehicle away from the occupant. A hydraulic ram was used to lift he tree high enough to raise the car dashboard and free the occupant’s legs pinned beneath.

The occupant was stabilized and transported to the hospital by the Glen Ridge Volunteer Ambulance Unit.
