Each of these organizations accept donations without payment from or to the donor. The most current information is found at each listed website; please use the Montclair website information only for guidance. Each main donation category is listed with a few organizations; a broader list of local donation sites can be found by searching online.

Donational Organizations

Freecycle is a free online network of people who are giving and getting stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.  Membership is free.  In “New Jersey”, the closest group to Montclair is “Essex”. Access Freecycle: Essex Freecycle Group and click "Sign up/Log in" in the upper right hand corner join.  Then you can post an item you wish to give away or browse for items you or others are seeking.

Accepted Items: Anything that can be given away.

Goodwill has drop-off sites in nearby towns and proceeds are used to assist individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment to gain independence through the power of work.  Your donations can be picked up or dropped off.

Accepted Items: gently used clothing, shoes, jewelry, accessories, handbags, luggage, electronics, household goods and other items.

They are located at 9 Label Street in Montclair.  Their food pantry clients are also able to select clothing.

Accepted: Like-new and gently used clean and wrinkle-free in-season clothing (they do not have space to store out of season clothing), shoes, diapers, toiletries, bedding.

  • Montclair Main Library for Book donations

The main library at 50 S Fullerton Ave, Montclair, NJ has two large bins for Better World Books located on the driveway between the library and the adjacent building.

This NJ non-profit organization rescues bicycles and sewing machines from becoming trash and ships them to developing countries where they are highly valued.   The group hosts drop-off collection events in and around the Montclair area. This organization diverts textile waste to fund community development in the U.S., Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Accepted Items: used clothes and shoes.

Donated goods are sold at their thrift stores and proceeds are used to fund their Adult Rehabilitation Centers.

Accepted Items: gently used and operable appliances (not built-ins), automobiles, furniture, clothing, household goods, bicycles, books, toys, computers, phones.

They are located at St. Luke’s Church, 73 S. Fullerton Avenue in Montclair.  Clothing donations are sold on site in Toni’s Closet, and the proceeds benefit their food kitchen.

Accepted Items: In addition to accepting food, they take in-season new/gently used clothing, socks and shoes, toiletries, diapers, and cleaning supplies.

VVA’s goals are to promote and support the full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans.  

Accepted Items: Vehicles, Clothing and shoes, Household goods: Kitchenware, small furniture, small appliances, Electronics, Baby items and toys, all must be clean and in good working condition.

This vehicle donation program benefits Make-A-Wish® New Jersey, a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children facing life-threatening medical conditions.

Accepted Items: Cars, trucks, motorcycles, SUVs, RVs, boats. In most cases, your vehicle is accepted whether it is running or not.
