Elevator training

Winter 2018.

Montclair Fire Department Officers and Members participated in continuing education and training for safe operations at elevator emergencies.

Department Companies reviewed proper extrication techniques and operated at a drill on the campus of Montclair State University. Most incidents are handled following simple procedures that ensure the safe removal of elevator occupants. Members also trained utilizing specialized equipment to secure the elevator car in the shaft and rope rescue techniques.

The department responds to a number of these incidents in the Township and in the Borough of Glen Ridge throughout the year. Remember to remain calm if you find yourself in a stalled elevator car. Utilize the elevators emergency call button or dial 911 from your cellphone. Montclair Fire Department units will respond and have you out as soon as possible.
