Police Blotter: January 31, 2023 – February 7, 2023
Motor Vehicle Crime
February 1, 2023 (North Fullerton Avenue): The complainant reported that she left her 2015 Mercedes Benz 350 running and unattended in the North Fullerton Parking Deck. Upon returning to her parking spot, she discovered her vehicle leaving the lot, turning north on North Fullerton Avenue. The vehicle was recovered hours later by the Essex County Sheriffs Department in East Orange. Two handguns were recovered from the vehicle and one subject (no further information) was apprehended after a foot pursuit.
February 5, 2023 (Bloomfield Avenue): The victim reported that his 2022 Mercedes Bans GLC was left running in front of Crockett’s Fish Fry. When he returned he discovered the vehicle had been stolen. Tracking devices last updated that the vehicle was in the area of Newark and Irvington.
Burglary / Theft
February 2, 2023 (Fairfield Street): The resident reported that at some point between November and January, approximately $4,000.00 worth of landscaping slates were stolen from her rear yard. The slates were estimated to weigh 80 pounds each.
February 4, 2023 (Glenridge Avenue): Patrol responded to Glen Willow Lofts on a noise complaint. The building is currently under construction and vacant. Upon arrival they observed approximately 100 juveniles exiting the main entrance. A walk though of the building was conducted to locate and disperse any remaining individuals. Two apartments appeared to have been entered by the juveniles as multiple bottles and trash was located throughout. It appears entry was gained after the individuals used a rock to shatter a glass sliding door. The Montclair Fire Department and building management arrived to secure the building and repair the damage.
February 6, 2023 (North Mountain Avenue): The victim reported that he ordered an Apple Computer and computer parts. He was notified that the items had been delivered by UPS. Less than a minute later, he went to his front door to retrieve the package and discovered it was gone. After contacting the driver and speaking with him, it was learned that an unknown suspect approached the UPS driver outside of the residence with fraudulent identification containing the victim’s information. The suspect signed for the items and fled. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his late forties to early fifties, slim build, approximately 5'7”-5'10” tall, with a light beard wearing a button-down shirt, dress pants, and dress shoes.
