May 3, 2022 – May 10, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

May 4, 2022 (Orange Road): An employee of South End Gardens Senior Apartments reported that he observed an unknown male attempting to steal a motor bike from the east side of the parking complex. The suspect was attempting to place the motor bike into the rear of a dark colored sedan. Once the suspect realized he could not fit the motorbike into his vehicle, he fled the scene.

May 9, 2022 (Valley Road): The victim reported that he parked his 2018 Mazda CX5 in the Quick Check parking lot. The vehicle was left running with the key fob left inside. When he returned to the vehicle after making a purchase, he observed a black male exiting the parking lot in his vehicle. It was last seen south on Valley Road and then east on Walnut Street.

Criminal Mischief

May 8, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): An employee of the Shell Gas Station reported that a customer in the mini mart became unruly after a dispute over payment. The customer reacted by knocking over a display of items near the register onto the store floor. The store floor near the register was covered with “5 hour” energy drinks, lighters, Welches Fruit snack packs along with other items.

Arrests

May 3, 2022 (Harrison Avenue): A 21-year-old male from East Orange, New Jersey was arrested on open warrants out of the Essex County Sheriffs Department following a motor vehicle stop.

May 6, 2022 (Essex Avenue): A 22-year-old male from Montclair was charged with Criminal Trespass after an officer performing a routine check of the Woodman Field House observed him inside of the equipment shed. In addition, he had three open warrants out of West Orange.

May 10 – May 17, 2022

Theft

May 13, 2022 (Glenridge Avenue): An employee of ‘White Rabbit Black Heart’ reported a shoplifting at his store. An unknown person entered the store and while the employee was assisting other customers, the suspect took a “Benjamin" brand burgundy leather-bound witchcraft journal and left the store. The suspect was described as unknown gender, 17-20 years old, fair skin, straight dark colored hair, wearing black/white skeleton gloves, black face mask, denim jean jacket style top, and a backpack.

Motor Vehicle Crime

May 10, 2022 (Stonebridge Road): The resident reported that they were alerted by their neighbor that an unknown person was inside of their parked 2021 Landrover. The vehicle was parked in the driveway of the residence. The neighbor reported that he was looking out of his window and observed a male exit a black SUV and enter the Landrover. The neighbor began to approach the suspect who ran back to the SUV and fled west on Stonebridge Road.

May 14, 2022 (Maple Avenue): The resident reported that he received an alert on his phone that his credit card was being used at the Mission Mart in Montclair. Realizing he did not have his wallet on him, he checked his vehicle and found that it had been entered. Surveillance footage shows an unknown subject entering the victim’s vehicle at 2:56 AM and removing the wallet.

May 14, 2022 (North Willow Street): The complainant reported that she parked her 2015 Subaru Forrester in the area of North Willow Street and Bloomfield Avenue. When she returned to the car about an hour later, she discovered that her cellphone was missing.

May 14, 2022 (Greenview Way): The resident reported that he observed a black SUV pull up in front of his residence. A male exited the SUV, ran up the driveway, and opened the driver’s side door to the resident’s 2014 Audi. The resident ran out to confront the suspect who returned to the SUV and fled south on Greenview Way and west on Bellevue Avenue.

May 15, 2022 (Grove Street): A 2007 Suzuki Three-Wheel motorcycle reported stolen from Bloomfield, NJ was recovered in the Lackawanna Plaza parking lot.

May 17, 2022 (Grenada Place): A 2021 Honda Civic was stolen from a Grenada Place driveway. Surveillance video shows a light-colored sedan pull up in front of the driveway. A slender male

approaches the Civic, enters it, and flees west on Grenada Place with the light-colored sedan following it.

Arrest

May 11, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 32 year-old male from Montclair was charged with Terroristic Threats following a verbal dispute on Bloomfield Avenue.

May 17 – May 24, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

May 17, 2022 (Park Street): The complainants reported that they were conducting an appliance delivery to a residence when two cell phones were stolen from their delivery truck. The truck remained unlocked while the delivery was being made.

May 18, 2022 (Berkley Place): The caller reported that while jogging on Berkley Place, she observed an unknown male exit a white Ford Explorer, walk up the driveway to a residence, and attempt to enter a 2013 Audi. When the suspect saw he was being watched, he returned to the Explorer which fled west on Berkley Place. The Explorer was reported stolen out of Hampton, NJ.

May 18, 2022 (Orange Road): The complainant reported that while performing Heating and Cooling work at a residence, four thermostats and a wallet were stolen from his work van. A black male was observed exiting the truck, entering a black Toyota Camry, and fleeing south on Orange Road.

May 19, 2022 (Union Street): The complainant reported that while performing landscaping services at a residence, he observed a Hispanic male enter his landscape truck and remove a backpack. The male then entered a blue Hyundai and fled east on Union Street. The bag contained approximately $30.00 in cash.

May 23, 2022 (Ardsley Road): The complainant reported that while performing pest removal services at a residence, his wallet, cellphone, and jacket were stolen from his work van. The van was unlocked at the time of the theft.

Robbery/Theft

May 18, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): The manager at Whole Foods Market reported that the same male has been entering the market on several occasions, filling up a bag of groceries, and leaving without making payment. The suspect reportedly takes between $100-$150 worth of groceries during each incident (four incidents in total). The suspect was described as a black male, late teen to early twenties, medium/muscular build, average height, wearing a dark color "Nike" backpack and a black and blue "Montclair Lacrosse" sweatshirt.

May 21, 2022 (Grove Street): The victim reported that she was exiting her vehicle with her purse in her hand when a Maroon vehicle, possibly a Honda, pulled up beside her. An individual

inside the Honda reached out and grabbed her purse from her. The maroon vehicle then sped away east on Oxford Street. A witness reported observing the incident. He described the suspect vehicle as a Maroon Honda with out of state temp tags and dark tinted windows. Two windows were rolled down and the driver and passenger were two black males with thin builds.

Arrest

May 20, 2022 (Clinton Avenue): The resident reported that he was alerted by his home surveillance system that an unknown person was attempting to gain entry into his home. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie with a white zipper, black sweatpants and black sneakers with orange soles. Responding officers located a 43-year-old male from Montclair fleeing the area who matched the exact description. He was charged with Criminal Attempt Burglary. At 1:26 AM, a resident of Undercliff Road reported her home surveillance system had earlier captured a male entering her 2006 Land Rover. Responding officers viewed the footage and determined it was the same male responsible for the attempted burglary on Clinton Avenue. The suspect was charged with an additional count of Criminal Attempt Burglary.

May 24 – May 31, 2022

Motor Vehicle Crime

May 25, 2022 (Watchung Avenue): The victims reported that while performing landscaping services on Watchung Avenue, their truck was entered and a bag was stolen. The bag contained the victim’s lunch, car keys, and cellphones.

May 26, 2022 (Clinton Avenue): The victim reported that his vehicle was entered and his wallet was stolen. The wallet contained $100 in cash and various credit cards. A witness observed two unknown males enter the vehicle before fleeing north on Clinton Avenue in a black Nissan Altima with tinted windows.

May 27, 2022 (South Mountain Avenue): The victim reported an unknown person entered his truck and stole his wallet. The wallet contained credit cards that were ultimately used at a Best Buy.

Robbery/Theft

May 24, 2022 (Wilde Place): A female victim was walking with her caretaker in the area of Plymouth Street and Wilde Place when they were approached from behind by a male suspect. The male suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and threw her to the ground. The male ran to an awaiting vehicle and fled the scene. The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20’s or early 30’s. He was wearing all black clothing and had a light blue cloth mask that was under his chin. The suspect had short dark curly hair and was approximately 5’8” to 6’0" in height. The suspect vehicle was described as a silver Honda Accord with temporary registration. The victim suffered abrasions to both knees, both palms, her right shoulder and the right side of her face.
She was treated by Montclair EMS and transported to Mountainside Hospital for further treatment. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Dan Heiser at (973) 509-4724.

May 27, 2022 (Watchung Avenue): A black Honda SUV arrived at the Valero gas station and requested thirty dollars worth of gasoline from the attendant. When the attendant finished filling the car the suspect sped away without making payment. The vehicle was last seen west on Watchung Avenue.

Arrest

May 25, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): A 22-year-old male from Montclair was charged with Shoplifting after taking $200.00 worth of groceries from Whole Foods without making payment.
