September 13, 2022 – September 20, 2022

Burglary / Attempted Burglary

September 14, 2022 (South Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that at some point overnight, an unknown person(s) entered his garage and stole two dirt bikes. One of the bikes was described as a black and white colored 2001 Yamaha Bondie valued at $11,000. The other ATV is a white colored 2020 CRF25R valued at $6,000.

September 17, 2022 (Upper Mountain Avenue): The resident reported that she was awoken by several phone calls from her wife who was away alerting her of individuals on their property seen through surveillance video. The video shows four suspects approach the side door of the residence on the north side of the home. One suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt, with an Adidas logo, opened the screen door. It appeared as though the suspects noticed a camera, at which time all suspects fled west on the driveway. Entry was not successful.

September 19, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Officers responded to Kai Yang Restaurant for a report of a burglary which occurred in the past. The owner reported that on Sunday morning (09/18/2022), at approximately 2:08 A.M., she received an alert on her phone from ADT security. The owner stated that she did not see anything on her phone to cause alarm. Upon her arrival at work on Monday, she discovered that the restaurant was broken into through the rear door, which was left unlocked. Approximately fifty dollars was stolen from the cash register.

Motor Vehicle Crime

September 14, 2022 (Elm Street): An officer on patrol in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Elm Street observed a white Infiniti Q70 parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was a reported stolen vehicle out of Passaic, New Jersey. The vehicle was impounded and returned to its owner.

Assault

September 14, 2022 (Trinity Place): Officers responded to the parking lot of the Salvation Army on a report of an assault that occurred. They located the victim, a 53-year-old male from Newark, suffering from lacerations to his face. The victim reported that he was using a ‘porta- potty’ and when he exited, he was attacked by two unknown males. One suspect was described as tall and stocky wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt. The other suspect was only described as shorter. He was treated by Montclair EMS and transported to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center.

September 19, 2022 (Lackawanna Plaza): The victim reported that he was involved in an argument with a co-worker when he was physically attacked. The victim reported that he was punched in the forehead causing a laceration to his head. He was treated by Glen Ridge EMS and transported to Mountainside Hospital. Burglary / Attempted Burglary

September 21, 2022 (Bellegrove Drive): The resident reported that she was in a second floor bedroom and noticed her motion light activated. She looked outside through the window and as she was approaching her rear glass sliding door she heard her screen door shut and observed a male running south down her driveway. The suspect was described as a male in his twenties or thirties, medium build, under 6'0" feet tall. He was wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt which was pulled over his face and dark colored pants. He did not make entry into the home.

September 22, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Employees of Greek Taverna reported that when they arrived for work, they discovered that the cash register was missing. Surveillance video reveals that at approximately 6:00 AM, an unknown suspect entered the restaurant from the Gates Avenue entrance. The suspect steals the register, which contained approximately $400.00 in cash. He was described as a white male, bald or balding with a beard. He is approximately 5'6- 5'8 in height and medium build.

Theft

September 21, 2022 (Claremont Avenue): The resident reported that he was awaiting the delivery of an iPhone 14 Pro. When the delivery company arrived, he was advised by the driver that a male flagged him down a block away from his residence and signed for the package. The suspect said that he was in a hurry and produced an identification. The suspect was described by the driver only as a heavyset Hispanic male.

Suspicious Incident

September 21, 2022 (Buckingham Road): The resident reported that she was alerted by her ring doorbell app of motion in her driveway. Upon checking the app, she observed a male attempting to enter two of her vehicles in her driveway. The doors to the vehicle were locked and the suspect was unable to gain entry. The suspect fled when multiple flood lights were activated. The suspect was described as a male wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, and white sneakers

September 27, 2022 – October 3, 2022

Burglary / Theft

September 27, 2022 (Bloomfield Avenue): Employees of A&M Barbershop reported that a male client received a haircut and left without paying. The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 30 years of age, medium build, with a beard, wearing green pants, black jacket, green hat, and last seen walking towards The Wellmont Theater. The haircut was approximately
$40.00.

September 28, 2022 (Fernwood Avenue): The homeowner’s son reported that he arrived at the residence at the request of his mother because the alarm had been activated. Upon his arrival, he discovered the rear door had been shattered and was wide open. The residence was checked and it was determined that the suspect made their way into two second floor bedrooms.
Approximately $10,000 in jewelry was stolen.

September 29, 2022 (Elston Road): The resident reported that he was asleep on his couch and was awoken by the sound of his side door slamming shut. Upon investigating, he discovered his health insurance cards scattered on the kitchen floor and two of his wife’s purses were missing. The purses contained a silver Rolex and approximately $350.00 in cash.

Motor Vehicle Crime

September 30, 2022 (Grove Street): The resident reported that her 2017 Hyundai was entered during the overnight hours. The vehicle was parked in the driveway and was left unlocked. Approximately $15.00 was reported missing. A second vehicle was reported to have been entered a few doors down. This vehicle was rummaged through but nothing was reported missing.

October 1, 2022 (Crestmont Road): A 2012 Audi Q5 was reported stolen from a Crestmont Road address. Surveillance footage shows the vehicle leaving the parking lot of the apartment complex at 11:20 PM. It was recovered in East Orange on October 2, 2022.

Arrests

September 28, 2022 (Valley Road): A 22 year-old male from Montclair was charged with Shoplifting from Quick Check on Valley Road.

October 1, 2022 (Park Street): A 32 year-old male from Montclair was charged with two counts of assault following a physical disturbance on Park Street.
