Theft
October 14, 2025 (Valley Road): Employees at CVS Pharmacy reported that they were assisting two suspects at the self-checkout. The employee reported that the self-checkout machine malfunctioned and while he was momentarily distracted, the suspects left the store with a cart full of merchandise. The employee attempted to chase after the suspects but was only able to see them enter a blue Acura TL and flee north on Valley Road. The suspects were described as a Hispanic female with black hair, approximately 5' 4"-5' 5" in height, wearing a black sweatshirt, black "Adidas" pants, and slides. Her accomplice was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5' 10"-6' in height, dressed in a black hoodie, grey sweatpants, and a black winter cap.
Suspicious Incident
October 17, 2025 (Upper Mountain Avenue): A resident of Upper Mountain Avenue reported that as he was exiting his residence, he observed an unknown male dressed in all black clothing and a black mask walking through his yard. While gathering information for the report, two more residents of Upper Mountain Avenue approached officers and reported being woken by “loud banging” at their windows. These events occurred in close proximity and during the time frame from where the original caller made the report.
Arrest
October 20, 2025 (Bloomfield Avenue): At approximately 5:39 PM, an off-duty Montclair Detective observed a male at the corner of South Park Street and Bloomfield Avenue. The detective recognized this male as a suspect wanted in connection to several thefts that occurred at Retro Fitness on South Park Street. In addition, the suspect was wanted in multiple jurisdictions for similar thefts. The detective and officers attempted to stop the suspect in front of the YMCA however; the suspect fled on foot. A brief foot pursuit ensued resulting in the suspect being apprehended on Church Street. Jaqwe Bogar, a 31-year-old male from East Orange, was charged with Obstruction by Flight, two counts of Receiving Stolen Property, Refusal of Fingerprinting, and Unlawful possession of a weapon. During arrest, Bogar was found to be in possession of a knife. In addition, during processing, several credit cards of different individuals were located in his possession. After further investigation, the credit cards were determined to have just been stolen by Bogar from the locker room at Retro Fitness.
