Current Road Closures and Traffic Impacts

Published on January 01, 2026

This page provides information on current road closures, lane restrictions, and traffic impacts related to utility work, infrastructure improvements, and other construction projects taking place throughout the township. Projects may be managed by the Township, PSE&G, or other agencies and contractors working within public rights-of-way.

In addition, contractors and PSE&G officials will notify residents via paper notice at their homes / apartment buildings if their street will be directly impacted.

This page is regularly updated based on the latest information from PSE&G and the township, and is also e-mailed to residents as information becomes available. Make sure you're signed up for e-mails from the township - click here to register your e-mail.

PSE&G Gas Line Service & Repair Project

PSE&G is currently working on a project in Montclair to replace aging cast iron pipes with new, durable piping to improve the safety and reliability of gas lines throughout the township. Work takes place Monday through Friday between the hours of 7am and 5pm. PSE&G communicates to Montclair which roads will be serviced on a bi-weekly basis. Read more about the project on the PSE&G website here.

  • Project begins Monday, June 15

  • The contractor will start on the western side of the Upper Mountain Avenue and Watchung Avenue intersection, moving north towards Bellevue Avenue. Once completed, the contractor will turn his crew around and continue to reconstruct the curbs on the eastern side, heading back south towards Watchung Avenue.

  • This first phase is anticipated to take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

  • As we get closer to the completion of this first phase, a separate notice will be issued to the residents who live north of the Bellevue Avenue intersection for continued curb replacements.

  • Due to the limited space available on Upper Mountain Avenue, the contractor will be staging some equipment near Anderson Park

  • Once all curbing and drainage improvements are completed, a separate notice will be issued with details regarding the milling and paving.
