Upper Mountain Avenue has a new look. Recently completed roadway safety improvements have brought new traffic-calming measures to Upper Mountain Avenue, designed to reduce vehicle speeds and create a safer roadway for everyone.

One of the biggest changes is a new striping pattern known as a chicane. Chicanes shift the travel path from side to side, helping break up long, uninterrupted straightaways that can encourage higher speeds. To create this pattern, designated parking now alternates between sides of the road on certain stretches.

Drivers will also notice new speed humps, signage, and pavement markings, along with shared-use lane markings indicating that motorists and bicyclists share the roadway.

Take a look at what’s changed, and please drive carefully as you get familiar with the new traffic pattern.

Remember: The speed limit on Upper Mountain Avenue is 25 MPH.
