Montclair Township has been working to remediate the former Pyramid gas station at 399 Orange Road since 2008. The work has been largely funded by the New Jersey Hazardous Discharge Site Remediation Fund (HDSRF) under the oversight of a Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP).

This work has included the installation of monitoring wells, the removal of underground storage tanks, demolition of the building, site investigations and the preparation of a Remedial Action Plan which has been approved by NJDEP. The Township has received another HDSRF grant to cover 75% of the cost to remediate the site which is estimated at $1.2 million. Work on this project is anticipated to start later this year. Once remediated, the property will be developed as a passive park.

A community meeting was held on April 24th to discuss the details of the planned remediation. A link to the presentation providing details of the remediation project is provided here(PDF, 8MB)
