Montclair Township  issues five new affordable housing vouchers as part of Section 8 program

Montclair, NJ (March 19, 2025) -- Montclair Township announces today that the Montclair Housing Authority has issued five new Housing Choice Voucher Program vouchers to Montclair residents. The Housing Choice Voucher Program, also known as Section 8, offers affordable housing choices to income qualified households by subsidizing safe and sanitary housing in the private rental market.

The waiting list opened for the first time since 2007 on June 20th, 2024. On that date, 225 people were allowed onto the waiting list.

Interim Township Manager Michael Lapolla, Township staff, and outside activists made it a priority to re-open the waiting list after an extended period of dormancy. The Section 8 program is an important component of the housing choices available to Montclair residents.

The current waiting list is now closed. The Montclair Housing Authority will work proactively to move through the waiting list. New vouchers will be issued systematically and as finances allow. To learn more about the Section 8 program in Montclair, visit the website here.
