Montclair Township Launches Resident Survey on Weekend & Off-Peak Transit Service to NYC
Montclair Township has launched a community-wide survey to evaluate how residents travel between Montclair and New York City, and to assess whether expanded weekend and off-peak NJ Transit service is needed. Developed by the Public Transportation Working Group (established under the Township Council’s Mobility Committee), the survey will provide essential data to support ongoing discussions with NJ Transit officials.
Currently, weekend trains run between Montclair’s Bay Street Station and New York Penn Station every two hours, and there is no weekend or off-peak weekday bus service from Montclair to New York City. As the Township continues its discussions with New Jersey Transit service regarding service changes, resident feedback will help identify the most significant needs and priorities.
What the Survey Asks
Residents are asked how often they travel to and from New York City, which transportation modes they use, and what barriers -such as infrequent schedules, parking limitations, or reliability concerns - affect their transit choices. The survey also invites residents to rank potential improvements to bus and train service and share any concerns related to expanded service.
What Happens Next
After the survey closes, members of the Public Transportation Working Group will analyze the results and share them with NJ Transit and the public. The findings will play a significant role in shaping future decisions on weekend and off-peak service expansion.
How to Participate
Anyone who travels between Montclair and New York City is encouraged to complete the survey and share it within the community.
