3rd Ward Councilor Lori Price Abrams
A 24-year resident of Montclair, Councilor Lori Price Abrams was elected in May 2020 for her first term of office, representing the residents of the Third Ward. She and her husband have raised their two children in town, both now graduates of the Montclair public schools.
She brings nearly thirty years of experience in public policy, government and community relations to the position. Her professional roles have been within non-profit organizations and in government relations on behalf of diverse client interests, including those in health, higher education and energy sectors, religious communities, and general business interests. In her work with a large non-profit organization, she led on values-based issues such as aging in place for seniors, anti-hunger and civil rights policies, at the local, state and federal levels of government.
Lori holds an undergraduate degree in Philosophy from SUNY Binghamton, with a Certificate in Human Services & Society, and earned her law degree from the University of California at Berkeley’s School of Law and is formerly a practicing attorney. Lori participated as a member of the 2017 Class of Lead NJ and was an honoree of the Essex County Board of Chosen Commissioners during Jewish Heritage Month, 2018.
Lori has continuously taken on leadership in roles of community service since her teen years. Her community activities include service as a trustee of Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield, where she was elected to be the congregation’s first Vice President of social justice efforts and through which she serves on the Greater Bloomfield Interfaith Partnership steering committee. In that inter-faith effort, she has engaged in projects to address community hunger, immigration and refugee issues and most recently, racial injustice.
Lori serves on the NJTV Community Advisory Board and was a founding officer of Emerge NJ, whose mission is to train women to run for elective office, and of Transform: Solutions for a Sustainable Planet. She has also served as Trustee of the boards of NJ Citizen Action, and NJ Center for Non-Profits.
Lori is enthusiastic to leverage her skills and experiences to the service of her home community of Montclair.
