Montclair Department of Health partners with S.A.V.E Cancer Screening Program to bring Mammography in Motion Mobile Van to Montclair Community

On May 1st, the Montclair Department of Health partnered with the Mammography in Motion mobile van and the S.A.V.E Cancer Screening Program at Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ at University Hospital.

The event provided access to breast and cervical cancer screenings to women of Montclair!

The mobile van, brought to the community by a partnership between Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation and the University Hospital Foundation in Newark, NJ, includes state of the art 3D Imaging in a comfortable and discreet space with no prescription necessary.

There is also personalized navigation for any abnormal results that may be found during the screenings for women to be able to follow-up with the necessary medical professionals.

The goal of the program is to:

  • to promote early detection of breast & cervical cancer
  • ensure that all eligible women may receive regular screening for breast & cervical cancer
  • to detect breast and cervical cancer at its earliest stages when it is most treatable and reduce breast & cervical cancer deaths
  • to reach women in our community that do not have adequate access to medical care, economic, financial, and social benefits

Each screening has its own guidelines for participation:

Breast (Mammography) Screening Eligibility:

  • Women aged 40 and older
  • Have either never had a mammogram or last mammogram was at least 12 + months ago.
  • For insured and uninsured patients

Cervical (PAP) Screening Eligibility:

  • Women aged 21 to 65 years old
  • Last pap smear was at least 12+ months ago
  • Only for uninsured patients (The S.A.V.E Program continues to provide the needed funding to support uninsured women for this screening)

The mobile van was able to see 27 total patients, some of whom were able to obtain both screenings. We’d like to thank the S.A.V.E Cancer Screening Program for their continued work to bridge the gaps in healthcare access in the Essex County community, and we hope to collaborate with them again in the near future!
