Notice of Data Security Incident

The privacy and security of the personal information we maintain is of the utmost importance to the Township of Montclair (“Montclair”) On April 19, 2024 Montclair notified certain individuals about a recent data security incident that involved their personal information.

On or around June 1, 2023, Montclair was subject to a sophisticated cybersecurity incident. Upon learning of this issue, we commenced a prompt and thorough investigation with external cybersecurity professionals experienced in handling these types of situations to help determine whether any personal sensitive data was compromised because of the incident.

After an extensive forensic investigation, we discovered on March 25, 2024 that the systems, which were accessed between approximately May 22, 2023 and June 1, 2023, an unauthorized actor may have accessed and/or acquired information including full names, Social Security numbers, medical treatment information, health insurance information, dates of birth, financial account information and government identification.

Impacted individuals have received information on the specific data that may have been impacted.

We have no indication that any information has been misused for identity theft. Nevertheless, out of an abundance of caution, we want to make residents aware of the scope of the incident. This notice also provides other precautionary measures individuals can take to protect their personal information, including placing a Fraud Alert and Security Freeze on their credit files, and obtaining a free credit report.

Additionally, you should always remain vigilant in reviewing your financial account statements and credit reports on a regular basis and report any fraudulent or irregular activity immediately.

We are committed to maintaining the privacy of personal information in our possession and have taken many precautions to safeguard it. We continually evaluate and modify our practices and internal controls to enhance the security and privacy of your personal information.
