  • Any school parking lot

You must remove your vehicle by 6:00 AM Wednesday to allow municipal employees, school staff, and students to access these facilities.

If you parked in any other municipal lot or the Midtown Deck, vehicles must be removed by 8:00 AM Wednesday, as previously announced.

Storm Timeline & Expected Impacts

  • The primary storm system is expected to arrive Sunday evening and begin to taper off around midday Monday, though drifting may continue afterward.

  • Current projections indicate 12 or more inches of snow are possible; some forecasts are predicting totals up to 23 inches in Essex County.

  • Winds will increase throughout the storm, resulting in blowing and drifting snow.

  • Garbage and recycling pickup is cancelled for Monday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 24, with no makeup collection dates scheduled.

  • Municipal offices are closed for Monday, February 23, and will have a delayed opening at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24.

Parking Restrictions

In accordance with Township Ordinance § 327-25 – No Parking on Snow-Covered Streets:

  • Parking is prohibited on either side of any public street when snow has covered the roadway sufficiently to obscure road markings. Vehicles parked on snow-covered streets are subject to ticketing and towing.

  • There will be no on-street parking throughout the Township from 10:00 AM Sunday through Wednesday, 8:00 AM. (Note: If you park in the Municipal Building parking lot at 205 Claremont Ave, you must remove your car by 6:00 AM Wednesday)

Maintaining the parking restriction through Tuesday morning will allow DCS crews to fully clear roadways and sidewalks curb-to-curb, address intersections and crosswalks, and prevent the formation of hazardous snow banks. This additional time helps ensure safe pedestrian access, proper drainage, and improved visibility for motorists.

  • Free parking will be available in all Township surface lots and the Midtown Parking Deck beginning 9:00 AM, Sunday, February 22. The Crescent, Fullerton, and Bay Street parking decks are not included.

Snow Clearing Reminder

Property owners are reminded that they are responsible for clearing snow and ice from:

  • Sidewalks adjacent to their property

  • Curb ramps bordering their property

  • Storm drains along their frontage

  • A minimum of three (3) feet of clearance around fire hydrants

Clearing these areas promptly helps ensure pedestrian safety, proper drainage, and emergency access throughout the Township.
