(Montclair, NJ) December 2, 2024: The public/private partnership between the Township, the Placek Family Foundation and The Montclair Modern Aging Collective (The Collective) announces next steps in the establishment of the Lifelong Montclair Center for Modern Aging (The Center).
Representatives from the Township, Aging in Montclair, Montclair Gateway to Aging in Place, and MNDC/Do Drop In have been working together for the past ten months to outline organizational plans including governance, community focus groups, fundraising and facility needs. This partnership among the age-friendly organizations, individuals, and the Township, reflects the collaborative efforts needed to create a vibrant and inclusive Center through fundraising, volunteerism, and advocacy.
Construction Update:
Construction is underway at 60 S Fullerton Ave. The space has been cleared and architectural plans have been drafted. Renovations are moving ahead. The Center will feature an open reception area, multipurpose open space for gatherings, classes, etc. as well as office space for the Township Senior Services team and Collective membership organizations. An up-to-date computer lab for peer-to-peer tech training is also part the design. Renderings of the new center are available below this release.
Focus Groups:
The Collective is planning to host focus groups for Montclair residents, 55 years and older to receive community feedback and input on The Center. Representatives of the Collective will be on hand at the focus groups to provide updates regarding progress on The Center and to listen to community concerns for moving forward together.
Programming:
“We are proud of the many existing engaging programs and events for seniors and we’re developing a new consolidated calendar to make it easier for seniors to register all in one place,” says Judy Hurley, Township Director of Division of Senior Services Lifelong Montclair.
- A new centralized Modern Ager Calendar of Events will reflect the wide range of valuable programs and services initiated by the many groups throughout our community including the impressive work of the Montclair Institute for Lifelong Learning (MILL).
- A variety of organizations will be offering classes at The Center as well as continuing to present at the Edgemont Park House, the Wally Choice Center, and the Montclair Public Library.
Holiday Fundraiser:
The Collective is hosting its first fundraiser - a gift-wrapping kiosk at the Montclair Lackawanna Holiday Flea Market on Saturdays and Sunday between November 30 and December 22. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their holiday gifts to be wrapped at the MMAC kiosk and make a donation to The Center in return!
