The Township Water Bureau will begin its 2026 Spring Hydrant Inspection and Flushing Program starting Monday, March 23, 2026Crews will flush hydrants Monday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. in different service areas throughout the township.

Why hydrants are flushed

Hydrant flushing is a routine maintenance program that helps:

  • Remove sediment that builds up in water mains
  • Ensure hydrants are functioning properly
  • Maintain reliable fire protection for the community

What residents may notice

During flushing in your area, you may experience

  • Temporary water discoloration
  • Reduced water pressure

This is normal and should clear quickly once flushing is complete.

What to do if your water is discolored

If you notice discolored water:

  1. Turn on the cold water faucet on the lowest floor of your home.
  2. Let the water run until it becomes clear (typically within about 30 minutes).

The water is safe to drink, but it may not be ideal for uses such as laundry until it clears.

Tip: Please check that your water is running clear before washing laundry to avoid staining clothes.
