Notice about Certificates of Occupancy (June 2025): The Building Department has issued a notice regarding requests for a Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.). The Township of Montclair does not require the issuance of a new C.O. as a condition for the sale, mortgage, or refinancing of any property.  However, all current construction permits and any open violations for the property must be closed out prior to closing. Contact the Building Department at (973)-509-4951 to arrange for closure of permits, after you have obtained the permit history via OPRA request.
