Theft
May 13, 2026 (Valley Road): Management at Kings Supermarket reported a repeat offender entered the supermarket the day prior and stole approximately $340.00 worth of steaks. He was described as a white or Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet tall, in his thirties, 180lbs, with brown hair. He was said to be wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants.
May 17, 2026 (Claremont Avenue): Employees at CVS reported that they observed a male enter the store and began placing soaps and deodorants into his bag and hooded sweatshirt. The staff reported that they have seen the male in the past and that he is banned from the store. The approximate value of the deodorant is $70.00.
Motor Vehicle Crime
May 15, 2026 (Elm Street): An officer patrolling the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Elm Street observed a silver-colored BMW that was reported to be stolen out of Newark and wanted for a carjacking in Jersey City. The officer made an attempt to stop the BMW, however it accelerated and sped away. A brief motor vehicle pursuit ensued until the BMW entered Glen Ridge from Washington Avenue. The officer then ceased pursuing the vehicle.
On May 16, 2026, this same vehicle was involved in an attempted motor vehicle theft at the Montclair Auto Spa Car Wash on Bloomfield Avenue. An employee reported that a male exited the silver BMW and entered a BMW 4 series that had just finished being washed. The suspect was unable to take the second BMW because the engine was off and the key fob was not with the vehicle. The suspect then reentered the silver BMW and fled east on Bloomfield Avenue into Glen Ridge.
Assault
May 16, 2026 (Columbus Avenue): At 8:40 PM, Montclair PD responded to the Emergency Room at Mountainside Hospital on a report of a juvenile who had been assaulted earlier in the evening. There, they met with a fourteen-year-old male from Montclair and his legal guardian.
The juvenile victim reported that he was riding his bicycle at approximately 7:00 PM in the area of Montclair Avenue, Columbus Avenue, and Essex Avenue. At one point, while on Columbus Avenue, a black sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, stopped close him. The juvenile victim fell off of his bike. Three black males, described as "high school aged", exited the black sedan and assaulted him before reentering the black sedan and fleeing east on Columbus Avenue. The victim reported that he lost consciousness but was eventually able to make it back home.
One suspect was said to be wearing all black clothing, a black fanny pack, and a sweatshirt with a dragon decal on it. A second suspect had red shorts and a white T-shirt. There was no description of the third suspect.
