Montclair Township Parks are open to the public from 7:00am to 10pm. Parks are closed to the public between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. except with a permit. Carey's Woods in Nishuane Park, Mountainside Park Nature Trail Center, and Alonzo Bonsai Wildlife Preserve close at sundown.

  • A permit must be obtained for any organized activity in the parks. Contact the Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs at 973-509-4915.
  • Cooking/Grilling is not permitted in township parks.
  • Glass containers are not permitted in any of the Township parks - they may not be carried or used.
  • All Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. Beer Gardens may be permitted by resolution presented to the Mayor and Council of the Township of Montclair, and with the approval of Township’s Parks. Please see ordinance code 234-2 H. 1(a)
  • Please have all the appropriate documents and/or permits approved from other departments for events involving vendors and/or food trucks.
  • Please specify the area in which you would like to permit and the series of events attended for said permit requested.

Special Event Permit

  • Please specify the area you would like to permit and the series of events for the permit requested.
  • Depending on the activity of the event, we would need Certificate of Insurance and to be listed as the additional insurer.
  • Please provide 501c3 Documentation at the time of request if a non-profit organization. A permit fee may be assessed for your event. 

Film or Photography Permit

  • Please specify the area you would like to permit, and the series of events attended for the permit requested.
  • Your organization is responsible for trash removal and cleanup of the permitted area.
  • Please provide Official Film License at the time of request through the Clerk’s Office. The Official Film License must be obtained before the permit for park/field usage. Please confirm if you will need police details for your film or photography location by contacting the Montclair People Dept. at 973-744-4752.

Athletic Field Permit

Please fill out requests, and email the Recreation office: mjreaves@montclairnjusa.org

Permit requests are not valid without Recreation approval. Permits must be shown if requested.

Payment varies upon length of the time requested, usage and approval.

*Glenfield Park, Anderson Park, and Brookdale Park are all Essex County Parks in Montclair*
