The Township currently has over 800 affordable rental or sales units, although available units are very limited.

Animal Control

Animal Control Officers (ACOs) are available to residents 24/7/365. They capture injured/sick animals, investigate dog bite incidents, enforce state and local pet licensing laws, and more.

Animal Shelter

The Montclair Township Animal Shelter offers adoptable animals to the public by matching homeless cats and dogs with responsible and loving families.

Code Enforcement

Focuses on ensuring and improving the quality of life of all Montclair residents through enforcement of related provisions with the Code of the Township of Montclair, Essex County rules and regulations, and NJ Statewide requirements.

Community Services/Public Works

Responsible for streets, public property and parks, refuse collection and recycling, shade tree maintenance, snow and leaf removal, and all community infrastructure except parking, water, and sanitary sewer utilities.

Engineering Bureau

Responsible for design and construction management for certain capital improvements to township streets (curbs, paving and drainage/storm sewers) and parks.

Finance and Taxes

Responsible for municipal accounting, budgeting and financial controls, tax assessments, water bureau and sewer utility billing, tax collections, purchasing, property assessment.

Fire Department

Emergency response agency that provided fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors.

Health & Human Services

Offers services and programs to help prevent spread of disease; holds vaccination clinics; protects the community against environmental hazards and food-borne outbreaks; provides health screenings, programs, and health education.

Human Resources

Responsible for workplace policies and procedures, Affirmative Action, EEOC concerns, posting job opportunities.

Law Department

Advises Council, Manager and departments on legal matters, writes proposed ordinances and resolutions, reviews and provides contracts, and represents the Township in litigation.

Municipal Court

Schedules cases for hearings, accepts bail, and maintains records of criminal and traffic tickets for attorneys, defendants, residents, and the general public.

Office of Information Technology

The Office of Information Technology is responsible the administration for all municipal department information technology core services, and maintenance based systems.

The office of the Township Clerk is historical in its traditions, serving as a direct link between residents and their local government since Biblical times.

Office of Sustainability

The Office of Sustainability works tirelessly to implement strategies that increase awareness of environmental issues as well as provide avenues for cost-saving alternatives to energy and waste management for Montclair residents.

Parking Utility

Responsible for municipal parking lots and decks, including metered parking; parking permits, parking fines.

Planning & Community Development

Responsible for all matters concerning planning, zoning, redevelopment and community development administration in the Township.

Police Department

Municipal law enforcement agency whose primary purpose is to uphold local, county and state laws, investigate local crimes, provide public safety service to the community.

Recreation & Cultural Affairs

Provides year-round recreational, athletic and cultural programs for all ages and abilities. Programs encourage healthful and active lifestyles, provide opportunities for learning and enrichment, and foster a sense of community.

Rent Control Office

Rent Control provides answers to frequently asked questions about the rent control ordinance, a printable Tenants' Rights Statement, and the various forms for landlords and tenants to submit as required by the ordinance.

Senior Services/Lifelong Montclair

Provides events and classes related to health and education, art and recreation, wellness, socialization and support, and general information for Montclair’s older residents.

Government Television Access Channel which provides community related programming, coverage of township public meetings, and public announcements for government, educational and non-profit organizations.

Water Bureau & Sewer Utility

Provide customers with a safe, clean supply of drinking water and sanitary sewer disposal services at the lowest possible cost.
