Montclair’s Native Landscapes Project

Transform Your Lawn: Save Money, Time, and the Environment with Native Landscapes!

"Maintaining a native landscape COSTS ONLY ONE-THIRD as much as maintaining turf grass" MARC Environmental Programs

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

Montclair Township has received a grant from Sustainable Jersey to create a native landscape demonstration garden, showcasing the benefits of native plants for both ecosystem and personal health. Native plants purify the air, reduce flooding, strengthen and support ecosystems and biodiversity, and require minimal maintenance.

By transitioning your lawn - or even a portion of it - to a native landscape, you can enhance your property while benefiting your health, your community, and the environment. Enjoy the advantages of better air quality, fewer allergy symptoms, and reduced respiratory issues. You'll also face a lower risk of flooding and potential water damage, all while maintaining a safe, chemical-free yard for pets and children, and saving time and money on upkeep.

To further educate our community on the benefits of incorporating native plants into our landscapes, our Office presented a live webinar with speakers Yuliya Bellinger and Yana Robbins, local landscape designers. Residents learned about the process of implementing the demonstration landscape, the benefits of native plants and examples of some native species, and sustainable gardening practices versus practices to avoid. Go to the ‘Watch the Webinar’ tab below to learn more.

Residents who attended the live webinar had the opportunity to be the first members of our community to sign up to receive complimentary landscaping consultations from our local landscape designers.

RECEIVE A COMPLIMENTARY LANDSCAPING CONSULTATION:

Montclair residents are eligible to receive a complimentary landscaping consultation, valued at $200, to help residents incorporate native plants into their landscapes. You will walk away from your consultation with a schematic of your native landscape tailored to your property's needs, optimal native species suggestions and further resources to assist in the implementation of your project.

Spots are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to webinar attendees. Consultations are for Montclair residents ONLY. Sign ups are currently closed — please email mcunliffe@montclairnjusa.org if you would like to be placed on a waiting list in case any appointments become available.
